Mr Viju Peter

Mr. Viju Peter is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust specialising in treating patients with hip and knee problems. His particular area of focus is Hip and Knee replacement surgery, hip problems in the young adult and joint preserving procedures.

Mr. Peter specialises in hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, revision hip replacement surgery, hip arthroscopy and knee arthroscopy.

After completing his Higher Surgical training in the Mersey rotation and fellowship training at Wrightington Hospital and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital [Birmingham], he was appointed as consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals in 2008.

He enjoys helping young patients manage their arthritis, improving outcomes after revision surgery for failed joint replacements and investigating high performance bearing surfaces for joint replacements. Over the years he has gained extensive experience in complex primary hip replacements, joint replacements in young patients and revising failed hip replacements.

More recently, he set up an Arthroplasty Service at Alderhey Children's Hospital with transitional clinics between Alderhey and Broadgreen, which provides a seamless patient care for children and young adults. He performed the first hip replacement in the hospital's history at Alderhey in September 2019.

It is important to preserve the native joint whenever possible. Hip arthroscopy and joint preservation techniques are procedures he is skilled in. He has been performing hip arthroscopy for many years and is the only surgeon in Liverpool who is experienced in doing this procedure.

In addition to his clinical practice, he has a genuine interest in research with publications in many reputed journals and presentations and invited lectures at national and international meetings and conferences.

Mr. Peter is the Infection Control lead and the NJR lead for the Orthopaedic Department and a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Hip Society, British Association for Surgery of the Knee and the British Medical Association

In his free time he enjoys travelling and playing cricket and badminton.
