“I suffer with health anxiety and Mr Michael Stellakis was superb all the way through the process. Incredibly reassuring and professional. His synopsis on what was causing the issues was always correct before and after the colonoscopy. I have heard some horror stories about the colonoscopy procedure from friends and family but it was seamless and painless. I could not recommend Mr Stellakis enough.“

    About

Mr. Michael Stellakis is a leading Laparoscopic Abdominal Surgeon based in Leamington Spa. He uses the latest state-of-the-art equipment in treating a range of conditions, including hernia, colon cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and gallbladder disease. He works for the private sector and has a practice at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital. He also has more than 15 years of experience at the South Warwickshire Foundation Trust.

Mr. Stellakis qualified in 1991 from the University of Bristol, before training at a number of medical institutes in London, Strasbourg, and Paris. He then went on to complete a fellowship on Laparoscopic Bowel Surgery at Frimley Park Hospital in 2004.

He has a vast experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) and endoscopic surgery and is one of only 57 Consultant Surgeons in the UK who made up part of the national training programme allowed to train other consultants in advanced keyhole techniques for removing bowel cancers. Mr Stellakis set up from scratch the keyhole bowel cancer service at Warwick hospital, lead the implementation of the state of the art operating suite and pioneered these surgical techniques in the Midlands. He has trained numerous fellows, junior surgeons and consultants.

He also treats benign diseases of the bowel including irritable bowel syndrome. He is a skilled diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopist who is audited every three months. His comfort and patient satisfaction scores are excellent.

Mr Stellakis has a specific interest in keyhole repair of hernias, colonoscopies and sports groin injuries. He has developed the Warwickshire Hernia Centre that specialises in all types of abdominal hernia surgery including recurrent and complex hernias. He is one of the few UK surgeons who has performed over 1500 TEP laparoscopic hernia repairs with excellent audited results. This technique, whilst more complex to perform than other keyhole or open repairs, affords the patient less pain and scarring and quicker recovery whilst being safer than other techniques. Overall Mr Stellakis has completed over 9000 laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures.

Mr Stellakis is Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital (a position he has held for 4 years) and is lead for endoscopy. He has recently lead the endoscopy unit during its successful campaign to gain national accreditation (JAG). Nuffield Health Warwickshire is one of only three private hospitals to have achieved this currently.

Dr Stellakis is an incredible surgeon and I would highly recommend him. Dr Stellakis from my first consultation with him was very kind and gave me a lot of his time to explain what what was wrong with me and how the surgery would be preformed. Dr Stellakis made me feel very comfortable and safe about having surgery. Dr Stellakis removed my gallbladder and post surgery I didn’t have much pain or bruising which just show what a great surgeon he is. The nursing staff were also so lovely and kind! I want to say a big thank you to Dr Stellakis

Mr Stellakis is an exception medical practitioner, who offers a very person centred level of care. Medical explanations were delivered using different media to give the best ‘picture’ of what was going on and what was proposed as the ‘fix’. Dare I say, it was an enjoyable experience from the Dr/patient perspective. Anyone under Mr Stallakis’ care is in very good hands.

Mr Stellakis is a wonderful man & brilliant consultant. Very experienced & knowledgeable. I found he put me at ease & explained everything very well. Apparently I have a long & twisty bowel but Mr Stellakis completed a colonoscopy with great care ensuring I was comfortable throughout the procedure. As a manager of a private medical clinic, I have many years of experience working with doctors & I can honestly say Mr Stellakis is one of the best consultants in his field.

First class Consultant. He helped me every step of the way through the treatment. This was from the first appointment right through to the post op consultation, he explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and inspired calm and confidence. Could not have wished my surgical procedure to have gone any better.

My gall bladder was a mess - and full of stones, and, as many things do in the abdomen, had already caused me excrutiating pain. So I was desperate to get the very best surgeon to deal with it. Thankfully my cardiologist knows all the specialists in this area so when she told me to see Michael Stellakis about my gall bladder, I knew it was sound advise. He was superb at every stage. He was thorough in his analysis - so much so that I immediately had confidence in his ability. He was very patient in communicating with me (I had a lot of questions), and was very skilful in the operation itself (it wasn't straightforward). The “proof of the pudding” is that I have quickly recovered and now feel better than I have done for years.
