Mr Samer Hamada

Mr Samer Hamada (MD, MSc, DO(Hons), FRCSEd, FRCOphth, FEBO, FWCRS) is an internationally recognised Consultant Ophthalmologist and a dual-trained paediatric and adult corneal and refractive surgeon — a rare distinction in modern ophthalmology. With over 25 years of experience, he specialises in advanced corneal, cataract and refractive surgery, including refractive cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. He is Medical Director of Eye Clinic London, founded in 2014 as a centre of excellence, and London Cataract Centre, a leading premium surgical facility in the Harley Street medical district.

He is particularly known for managing complex cases with a high degree of precision, including irregular corneas, previous surgery, ocular surface disease and advanced anterior segment conditions. He has performed more than 2,000 corneal grafts and is recognised as a pioneer in advanced lamellar corneal transplantation techniques, helping to redefine contemporary corneal surgery. His clinical approach is built on meticulous pre-operative assessment and optimisation of the ocular surface, both before and after surgery, to enhance surgical accuracy, safety and long-term visual outcomes.

A specialist in advanced intraocular lenses, Mr Hamada was among the early adopters of trifocal and extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lens technologies, contributing to improved visual quality and reduced dependence on spectacles. His attention to detail and surgical discipline underpin consistently strong outcomes, including an outstanding safety record with a 0% posterior capsule tear rate in cataract surgery.

In addition to his surgical work, Mr Hamada is widely recognised for his patient-centred approach, combining technical excellence with clear communication and empathy. He holds an honorary role at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where his work supporting paediatric vision reflects a commitment extending beyond private practice.
