About Mr Rohit Pratap

Mr Rohit Pratap qualified as a doctor from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in London in 1996. As a training junior doctor he worked at busy NHS hospitals in the London area. He also completed two full-time years of laboratory-based medical research in his training and holds higher BSc and MSc degrees from these. Having obtained his membership at the Royal College of Surgeons in 2001 and Diploma in Otolaryngology in 2002, he undertook his Higher Surgical Training in the East Anglia region of UK, working as a Specialist Registrar in Otolaryngology (ENT) at Addenbrookes, Norfolk and Norwich, Peterborough, Lister, and Luton and Dunstable Hospitals, obtaining comprehensive training in all common ENT elective and emergency conditions.

He obtained his final College Exit Examination in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery FRCS (ORL-HNS) at the first attempt in early 2009, which enabled him to practise as a Consultant ENT Surgeon.

Before taking on an NHS Consultant role and to further enhance his experience and obtain a wider view of how ENT is expertly practiced in other parts of the world, Mr Pratap decided to undertake a post-training post which took him to the Northern Territory of Australia as Senior Fellow in Otolaryngology, based in Darwin. This was a busy post as other big specialist centres were a few hours flight away, and he also flew out to more remote areas every month. With the high humidity, one-quarter of population of indigenous ethnicity and increasingly remote healthcare in this part of Australia, he was exposed to a wide range of advanced ENT conditions in challenging circumstances, especially in advanced chronic ear disease which is rife in that part of the world. He was performing three or four major mastoidectomies per week and treated many serious complications from advanced ENT disease.

Mr Pratap obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training from the Eastern Deanery in September 2010 and entered on to the Specialist Register. It is this exceptional level of training and plethora of experience, including his firm desire to continue to improve his experience through robust Continued Professional Development which ensures Mr Pratap can provide the highest standards of care to all his patients.

Mr Pratap has introduced several new services to the ENT departments of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust (his NHS base) and Spire Bushey, Harpenden and BMI Bishopswood Hospitals (his private practice bases), including minimally invasive, fast recovery balloon dilatation of Eustachian tube and sinus conditions, faster recovery and reduced pain with coblation tonsillectomy and hearing reconstruction surgeries in the form of ossiculoplasty and stapedectomy. In addition, he has enhanced and developed all other ENT services he has been involved with, including snorning and sinus surgeries.
