Mr. Robert H. Taylor is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialisation in both adult and paediatric ophthalmology, with particular expertise in strabismus (squint) and ocular motility. He has performed over 2,500 strabismus procedures to date. Mr. Taylor qualified in 1985 from Guy’s Hospital, London University, and has worked in Birmingham, Sheffield, and Leeds before taking up his consultant post in York in 1996.
In adult strabismus, Mr. Taylor assesses and performs surgeries for ocular misalignment, addressing issues such as double vision, headaches, and the cosmetic concerns that arise when eye misalignment causes social difficulties. His paediatric ophthalmology practice focuses on addressing any eye or vision concerns that children or their parents may have. While surgery is rare in paediatric cases, Mr. Taylor employs active treatments such as glasses and occlusion (patching), and offers second opinions for families who may have received unresolved questions from optometrists, as well as performing surgery where indicated.
Throughout his career, Mr. Taylor has contributed to the field through extensive research and publications. He has authored 58 peer-reviewed papers, two books, and three book chapters, and has presented 181 oral and poster presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He served as a clinical tutor, clinical director from 1996 2004. He has also contributed to the paediatric ophthalmology sub-committee from 2005 to 2011. He has been Chair of the Examination Board of the UK Royal College of Ophthalmology
Mr. Taylor’s research interests include refraction accuracy and strabismus outcomes. His areas of specialisation include eye misalignment, double vision, and childhood and adult squint.

Mr Robert H Taylor consistently gives clear explanations. He successfully performs eye muscle (squint) surgery, often correcting double vision and strabismus for patients. Patients frequently report life-changing outcomes, including improved vision and enhanced confidence post-procedure. Overall feedback consistently highlights successful interventions, especially in children's vision development.
I had eye correction surgery 4 weeks ago to realign my left eye. The measurements taken at the follow up appointment were as good as perfect alignment. Recovery progress is exactly as Bob Taylor predicted.
Follow-up appointment from an operation I received 4 years ago that completely changed my life. I truly couldn’t be happier with the results of this very complicated procedure that was terrifying for me. He changed my life I’ll be forever grateful
I found Mr Taylor to be professional and honest. He was a good listener, and seemed to understand the challenges of wearing corrective prisms and fresnel lenses. Although the prisms and additional fresnel lens ‘corrected’ my double vision I felt dysfunctional and it affected my balance. I am severely myopic (shortsighted) and in older age have suffered with deteriorating double vision He fully explained the problem and the link between my myopia and double vision and how he would correct it. He shared his outcomes and was clear about the potential risks. I was confident to go ahead with the operation., which was a great experience. Following surgery I have a single image and am back to wearing just contact lenses to correct my short sight. What I under estimated was the impact it would have on my overall wellbeing. I feel clear headed and functional again, my balance has improved and I feel 10 years younger. I can thoroughly recommend Mr Taylor.

Thank you for your detailed description and so glad everything went well and you have had benefits over and beyond the ones we discussed!

Thank you for feedback
Excellent diagnosis from Mr Taylor. It was suggested by Specsavers and Scrivens to have prescription spectacles!. It wasn’t necessary according to Mr Taylor.

Thank you for the feedback
Dr Taylor is excellent and made our 6 year old feel very comfortable and at ease. We are extremely pleased with the care we have received and the improvement in our child’s eyesight which would have been delayed had we not seen Mr Taylor.
