As a medical student at Cambridge University, he joined the army and went on to specialise in orthopaedics on rotations at Oxford, Cambridge, and London. During his training, Mr Hill received many accolades, including the Army's Montefiore Memorial Prize and Medal for Excellence in Surgery, as well as the Sir Walter Langdon-Brown Prize.

Mr Hill has previously been a visiting knee surgeon at the Defence Medical Services Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court. He has served in military trauma hospitals in the Middle East, although he has since left the Army to concentrate on his knee practice and academic interests.

He has published his research and delivered lectures on bone infection, knee biomechanics, and ACL surgery at both national and international meetings. He has also been a part of cartilage transplantation clinical studies.
