About Mr Nicholas Edmeades
I am a consultant ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in cataract surgery, inflammatory diseases of the eye (uveitis) and treatments of the retina.
I treat and manage a range of general eye diseases, with additional sub-speciality expertise in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusion, diabetic eye disease, central serous chorioretinopathy and uveitis, as well as the provision of intra-vitreal therapy, laser procedures and micro-incisional ocular surgery.
I qualified as a doctor in 2004, after which I carried out additional research and was awarded a degree in Cognitive Neuroscience. After that I completed seven years of ophthalmic surgical training in South West England, followed by a fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, specialising in retinal disease, uveitis and genetic eye conditions.

I have now had two cataract operations by Mr Edmeades. Both were entirely successful and have made a big difference to me. Mr Edmeades has a warm and friendly manner, was careful to put me at my ease and carried out the operations without any discomfort to me. I think there should be more clarity on taking the eye drops , ( ie what time lapse between the two ) explanation about how long to wear the protective eye mask at night Non of this is written down - probably discussed AFTER the procedure but not taken on board when still in nervous mode

We appreciate that a lot of information is given to patients so we ensure your letter and your cataract booklet and the drops all have written instructions on them for you to refer to. There is no set time between administering the two sets of drops. The eye mask is to be worn overnight for 7 days in order to protect your eye whilst sleeping. We also call all of our patients post-operatively to check how you are getting on and to answer any questions you may have.
