He is currently based at Hull Royal Infirmary, where he has held a consultant post since 2003, and also sees private patients at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital and Spire Hesslewood Clinic. His areas of expertise include cataract surgery, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, and other retinal diseases that affect central vision.
Mr Zaman has performed over 1,000 cataract operations and brings a broad range of surgical expertise, including glaucoma drainage procedures, squint correction, dacryocystorhinostomy, and more than 200 eyelid procedures such as blepharoplasty. He is skilled in the use of laser therapies to treat a variety of retinal conditions and is recognised for introducing photodynamic therapy in Hull for the treatment of wet AMD. He is also involved in regional service improvement as part of the diabetic eye screening programme.
He completed his fellowship in medical retina at the University of Nijmegen Radboud Teaching Hospital in the Netherlands, where he trained under Professor Deutman and Professor Cruysberg. Mr Zaman was a consultant in the Netherlands for 13 years before relocating to the UK, where he continued to build his reputation as a skilled surgeon and medical retina specialist.
Mr Zaman remains actively involved in research, particularly in the fields of macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusion, ensuring that his patients benefit from the latest treatment protocols. He is a member of the Netherlands Ophthalmologists Society, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the North of England Ophthalmic Society.
