About Mr Matthew Perry

Mr Matthew Perry is a highly experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon, appointed to St George’s Hospital in 2005. A London native, he qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1993 and earned his MD in 2002 through research on cancer vaccines for prostate cancer. Recognised as a pelvic cancer specialist, Mr Perry provides advanced surgical services for complex pelvic cancers, with a particular focus on robotic surgery for prostate and bladder cancer.

In 2013, he was invited to establish the robotic cystectomy service at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, and in 2016 he transitioned his full NHS practice to Guildford. Notably, Mr Perry introduced narrow-band imaging for the early detection and management of superficial bladder cancer, and his pioneering robotic cystectomy programme has led to safer surgeries, shorter hospital stays, and reduced complication rates at both St George’s and Royal Surrey County Hospitals.

Beyond his clinical work, Mr Perry serves as the Professional Director of Cancer Services at the Royal Surrey, advises the CRUK charity, and is a Trustee of the Prostate Project charity. His commitment to innovation and excellence in urological surgery continues to make a significant impact on cancer care and patient outcomes.

Mr Perry has expertise in the following areas:

  • Robotic Prostatectomy
  • Robotic Cystectomy
  • Robotic pelvic Lymph Node Dissection
  • Cystoscopy
  • Resection of bladder tumour
  • Resection of Prostate
  • Prostate cancer

The treatment and advice received from Mr Perry was extremely effective and reassuring. Mr Perry has vast experience, skill and capability which he brought to bear in my own treatment. His reassuring and calm manner made the whole process a relatively stress free and assured which is just what you need as a ‘nervous patient’ who is thinking the worst. I have made a complete recovery and have planned regular check up visits which means that I can concentrate in enjoying and living my life to the full. I would recommend Mr Perry without any reservation.

Mr Perry is always very clear, calm and professional. He made me feel at ease and that I could ask any questions, which he always explained really clearly. He even called at 7:30 one evening to check how a catheter removal had gone and how I was feeling. Additionally, his PA, Hazel, is really efficient and helpful. I have always felt in very good hands and would highly recommend.

I was nervous about the possible diagnosis but was reassured at every step. The cystoscopy was carried out very painlessly & was embarrassment free & the results of that & a CT Scan were explained very clearly.
