Mr Jonathan Howell

Mr Jonathan Howell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, currently working for the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. His speciality includes hip and trauma surgery, focussing on complex primary and revision hip replacement.

Mr Howell qualified in Medicine at King's College London in 1991, before working as a junior doctor in the medical branch at the Royal Air Force for six years. He then completed a Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996.

He decided to specialise within the field of Orthopaedic Surgery having undertaken higher surgical training in the South-West of England. At the same time, he was working as a research fellow and in recognition for his research, he was awarded the Young Investigator of the Year award in 1999 by the British Orthopaedic Research Society. This encouraged him to undertake an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering.

Mr Howell then moved to Canada where he was focussing on complex hip and knee replacement surgery at the University of British Columbia. Furthermore, he published several papers on his research and work on minimally invasive surgery. He then moved back to the UK (Exeter) in 2003 and took on a hip fellowship and then in 2004 he became Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon on the Hip Unit at Exeter Hospital.
