About Mr Jonathan Bernstein
Mr Jonathan Bernstein is an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) - Head & Neck Surgeon. In 2013, he completed his certificate of specialist training (CCT) in otolaryngology in the North Western Postgraduate Medical Deanery and Research Doctorate (MD) in translational radiobiology in head and neck cancer at Manchester University in 2013. He then moved to Toronto with his wife and children to complete the renowned 3-year advanced clinical and surgical fellowship program in head and neck oncological surgery, reconstructive microsurgery and endocrine surgery (thyroid and parathyroid) at Toronto's University Health Network (Princess Margaret Cancer Centre & Toronto General Hospital) and Mount Sinai Hospital.
Mr Bernstein subspecialises in all areas of head & neck (upper aerodigestive tract) surgical oncology, benign tumours, routine ENT conditions, thyroid, parotid/salivary gland, neck lumps, diagnostics, voice, swallow and hearing problems.
Jonathan has published peer-reviewed papers on functional MRI, cancer biomarkers, oncological outcomes and Bell's palsy, and he has presented his work internationally. He teaches subspecialty fellows, resident doctors and medical students and works on the FRCS Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations (RCS). He has undertaken honorary consultant work with the Gibraltar Health Authority.

I would highly recommend Jonathan Bernstein as a surgeon and am extremely grateful to him for his excellent care. His experience and knowledge are evident, and at every stage I felt that he had all possible outcomes pre-empted. Scans and investigations were quickly and efficiently arranged and followed up. I had the option of surgery or radiotherapy as first-line treatment and Jonathan arranged for me to see a radiotherapy expert so I felt fully briefed in deciding. In my case the radiotherapy expert agreed with Jonathan that surgery was the better option, and my operation (oncological tonsillectomy and removal of some lymph nodes in my neck) and recovery went exactly as Jonathan had predicted, with minimal scarring. Although I currently have private health insurance Jonathan told me I could switch into NHS care seamlessly at any stage which was reassuring to know. Jonathan is kind, understanding and a thoroughly nice man. I always felt that he and his colleagues had my best interests at heart and that I could not have been in better hands. I would recommend him without hesitation.
I was referred to Mr. Bernstein as soon as I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Mr. Bernstein explain in details the surgery required as well as the side effect that might occur. He visited me to the ward before the surgery, to make sure I am in a good condition. He is very kind, polite, and very professional.

Mr Bernstein has been excellent and I would highly recommend him. He successfully removed my parathyroid adenoma and was faultless from start to finish. From initial consultation, through to preparation for surgery, the operation itself and post-op care, Mr Bernstein has been great. He is clear, concise, thorough, empathetic and most importantly, an excellent surgeon.
