About Mr Gianluca Lucchese
Mr Gianluca Lucchese is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at St. Thomas' Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and practices privately at Cleveland Clinic London. He is also Honorary Reader in Cardiac Surgery at King’s College London. He completed advanced cardiac surgical training in Italy and the United Kingdom, including congenital cardiac surgery, heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and complex valvular surgery.
Mr Lucchese has an international reputation for advanced minimally invasive and emerging robotic cardiac surgery, with particular expertise in mitral and aortic valve repair, valve-sparing aortic root surgery, the Ross operation, and the Personalised External Aortic Root Support (PEARS) procedure. A large proportion of his practice is dedicated to endoscopic and transaxillary “key-hole” cardiac surgery, offering patients less invasive treatment options with faster recovery and excellent long-term outcomes.
He specialises in complex mitral and aortic valve repair, minimally invasive aortic valve and root surgery, redo cardiac surgery, complete arterial coronary bypass surgery, and tailored surgical strategies for young patients and patients with frailty. His philosophy is centred on delivering highly personalised treatment strategies, combining innovative techniques with durable surgical solutions tailored to each patient.
Mr Lucchese is actively involved in research, education, and quality improvement in cardiac surgery, with particular interests in minimally invasive surgery, enhanced recovery, valve-sparing surgery, and aortic root haemodynamics. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is regularly invited to speak at national and international scientific meetings.

I cannot rate Mr Lucchese high enough. I have had a myxoma removed with minimally invasive surgery which was not on offer elsewhere due to the tricky position of the tumour. My recovery has been great with no complications - 4 nights in hospital, out and about and exercising after 2 weeks. Not only a very skilled surgeon, he has shown great empathy, explains everything clearly and is positive and encouraging in difficult times. Thank you Mr Lucchese

Mr Lucchese's level of engagement was superb through out, from the initial consultation to the final post operative review.I was particularly impressed with his thorough approach which meant that all issues were identified pre-surgery and the procedure went as planned. Mr Lucchese ensured that my wife knew the outcome of the procedure immediately and he oversaw my progress and visited me throughout my in patient stay. I would recommend him unreservedly.
