Mr David Thyagarajan

Mr David Thyagarajan is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon based in Yorkshire. He provides specialist assessment and treatment for shoulder and elbow conditions and practises at Thornbury Hospital, Circle Health Group, Fulwood, Sheffield, as well as Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

He graduated in medicine in 1994 and completed higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery within the Severn Deanery, including posts in Bristol. He subsequently undertook the Nottingham Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship, where he gained extensive experience in the management of a wide range of shoulder and elbow conditions through a high-volume specialist training programme. He further developed his surgical experience at specialist centres in Houston and San Antonio, USA, focusing on advanced techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery.

Mr Thyagarajan has been awarded SECEC Certification by the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in recognition of his training and expertise in this subspecialty.

His clinical practice includes arthroscopic and open surgery for sports-related injuries, shoulder and elbow instability, joint replacement for degenerative conditions, revision surgery, custom reconstructive procedures, and sternoclavicular joint surgery.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Thyagarajan is involved in education and research. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and acts as a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He presents regularly at national and international meetings, including conferences organised by AAOS, SECEC and BESS, and contributes to international shoulder and elbow meetings.

He is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sheffield and is involved in surgical training at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, supporting the education and development of orthopaedic trainees.
