About Mr Conal Quah
Mr Conal Quah is a fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in lower limb arthroplasty. His NHS practice is based at Royal Derby Hospital, where he also offers private consultations through Derby Private Health, the hospital’s dedicated private patient unit. He is experienced in performing total hip and knee replacements, as well as complex revision procedures, and has particular expertise in managing periprosthetic fractures, bone loss, and joint infections. He also carries out arthroscopic knee surgery and supports enhanced recovery approaches to help patients regain mobility more quickly and safely.
Mr Quah completed his medical degree at the University of Dundee before undertaking his surgical training in the North East and East Midlands. He then pursued further specialist training through national and international fellowships, gaining wide-ranging experience in advanced joint reconstruction techniques. Alongside his clinical work, Mr Quah has a strong commitment to teaching and research. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, co-founded a surgical journal for trainees, and regularly presents at conferences in the UK and abroad. He teaches medical students, junior doctors and allied health professionals, and is a faculty member on several national and international surgical courses.
Mr Quah is fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the British Orthopaedic Association, and the British Hip Society.

Conal has carried out 2 hip transplant procedures for me & I was pleased to report that the outcome is ongoing consistently good with regard to both elimination of pain & 100% mobility. He was absolutely professional as always & I would not hesitate to recommend potential patients to his care & expertise.
Mr Quah put me at my ease. He listened to my questions answering clearly. He listened to my concerns and reassured me in a friendly and professional manner.
Mr Quah performed a total right hip replacement on me in 2022. This went extremely well. He explained everything clearly to me and my post-operative care was excellent. This year, I needed my left hip replacing and because of my earlier experience, I requested that this was done by Mr Quah. Again, all elements of what was to come and what I should expect were explained to me clearly. The operation was successful and recovery has been quick. I fully recommend Mr Quah
