About Mr Barry Maraj

Mr Barry Maraj is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL and Royal Free University and a mentor for the Caribbean Urology Association (CURA).

He has expertise in the following areas:

  • Minimally invasive surgery.
  • Laser treatment for BPH and kidney stones
  • Ureteroscopy
  • PCNL
  • Endourology and minimally invasive management of urologic disorders/cancer
  • High-energy treatment for stones and prostate enlargement
  • Chronic pelvic pain and recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Men's health and PSA

Mr Maraj qualified in 1987 from the Glasgow Medical School. He trained in general surgery in the west of Scotland and also gained valuable experience in vascular and plastic surgery. Following this, he undertook a research training fellowship in Leeds, which led to his PhD degree in the study of cancer biology at a molecular level. His work has been extensively published, and he has delivered multiple presentations at various conferences and courses.

Mr Maraj strongly believes in the value of research and innovation in the medical field and has a close research association with Professor James Malone-Lee in the assessment and management of lower urinary tract disorders; he has published a number of papers on the use of anti-wrinkle injections for bladder complaints. His research is also associated with the Royal Free Hospital in areas including nanotechnology and prostate cancer.

This extensive involvement in research along with the desire to constantly refresh his knowledge and skills drives him to offer the best treatment options tailored to suit his patients' needs.

Mr Maraj enjoys tennis, cricket, jogging and swimming. He also enjoys building his own radio-controlled vehicles and reading on the topic of ancient and lost civilisations.
