About Mr Arjun Shankar
Mr Shankar, Consultant General Surgeon, currently works as the Medical Director at HCA Lister Hospital and works as a consultant at The Harley Street Clinic, The Wellington Hospital, and HCA UK at University College Hospital. He works for the NHS at both University College hospitals and the Royal Free Hospitals. He is highly experienced in treating benign HPB conditions including acute and chronic pancreatitis, complex gallstone related conditions, emergency surgery, and duodenal polyposis.
Mr Shankar undertook his surgical training in London, working in units at The Middlesex, University College and Hammersmith Hospitals. During his training, he also undertook a research degree and was awarded an MD for his research into the Development of Colorectal Liver Metastases. Since being appointed as a consultant, he has previously taken on the additional responsibility of Divisional Clinical Director of Gastrointestinal Services at University College London Hospitals. Currently, He leads the Abdominal Sarcoma Unit, part of the London Sarcoma Service, at University College Hospital. Additionally, he runs the Hernia Clinic, providing both open and laparoscopic techniques.

Mr Shankar inspired me, from our very first meeting, with great confidence, and it proved very well-placed. He is also a kind, very professional, person, and explains things very clearly. He does not try to 'hurry you along', which is much appreciated.
I chose Mr Shankar because I have a history of recurrent hernias. He has a business-like approach but explained everything that he would be doing in detail. Having met him, I was confident that he was the right surgeon for me. Post-op, I believe I made the right choice.
The ops do not appear to have been straightforward and Mr Shankar was brilliant and I feel I was lucky he was the surgeon
