About Mr Andrew James
Mr/Dr Andrew James is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon based in Milton Keynes. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He currently works for the NHS at Milton Keynes University Hospital (previously also at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire). He works from the Saxon Clinic where Outpatient Consultations and Surgery is undertaken.
He was Clinical Director of the MSK Department Orthopaedics MKUH from 2016-2023.
Mr James completed his medical degree at the University of London in 1998, followed by his basic surgical training in Northampton. He later completed his professional training in Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery in Oxford and Atkinson Morley.
He completed his Specialist Registrar Training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery in the Oxford Deanery, gaining Specialist recognition via the CCT route. Followed by a years' AO Spine Fellowship and then a further years' Fellowship at Leeds Spinal Unit. Mr James also holds a Master's degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of Warwick.
Mr James has clinic interests in all areas of adult spinal surgery, excluding paediatrics and spinal tumours. He sees patients with back pain, neck pain with arm pain, spinal compression and disc injuries. He offers a range of treatments including the following:

- Lumbar microdiscectomy
- Lumbar microsurgery
- Lumbar spinal decompression surgery
- Spinal fusion surgery
- Steroid injection therapy
He is active in research and his research interest is in disc replacement technologies and spinal surgery outcomes. In addition to his research work, he also currently supervises trainees, fellows and medical students as part of their educational mentorship.

Well all I can say about Mr James is his absolutely fabulous the way he treats patient the way he talks you through every every part of what he’s going to do. This is the third time I’ve seen Mr James and each time it’s not been any different. He’s absolutely the best consultant ever.
I cannot praise Mr James and his team highly enough. Before, during, and after my procedure, the care I received was second to none. I had previously undergone the same procedure in Oxford, where it was extremely painful, so I was understandably very apprehensive. I needn't have been. The procedure was carried out with great care, and Mr James monitored me throughout to ensure I was comfortable and not in pain. The care and professionalism I received were exceptional. Thank you so much.

Mr James has been wonderful, so informative and clear in what I needed. He got me in quickly for a scan and explained what was wrong. After surgery he explained everything that had happened during surgery. All my next step where explained clearly. He has a friendly and calming manner that has put me at ease all the way through.
Mr James was very kind and answered my doubts clearly. I am very thankful to him for taking right decision to operate urgently. I am relieved of my pains and able to work normally.
Originally came with lower back pain and numbness in left Leg. Mr James made me feel listened to, at ease and was very caring. He explained everything very clearly at each stage. I can not fault the treatment I have recieved
