He earned national distinction in 2011 by winning the Sir Walter Mercer Gold Medal for achieving the highest score in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) examinations. Following his specialist training, he completed fellowship training in trauma and limb reconstruction across the United Kingdom and internationally in Canada, complemented by awarded travelling fellowships to international centres of excellence. He holds professional memberships as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, serves as Vice Chair of the British Orthopaedic Association Trauma Committee, and is an active member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society.

His clinical practice centres on managing complex fractures, bone infection, non-union, mal-union, deformity correction, and limb lengthening. Mr Trompeter has advanced fellowship training in circular frame surgery and the Ilizarov technique. He works closely alongside specialists in plastic surgery and microbiology within a multidisciplinary environment to manage complex post-traumatic conditions and deliver regional amputation services.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Trompeter holds an academic position as a Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is heavily engaged in surgical education, lecturing nationally and internationally, coordinating trauma teaching programmes, and contributing to published clinical research to advance standard practices in orthopaedic trauma care.
