I have had real problems with my left hand for many years now. I was discharged by Kingston hospital and told there was nothing they could do because I refused having surgery on my hand. I had my reasons for not having the surgery, but felt very let down by Kingston hospital. I did not know what else I could do and starting feeling very down about the situation with my hand as I was in pain. It was due to another injury on my left index finger I got referred to St George’s hospital and Miss Umarji’s team. They asked about the problem I was having with my hand and took me under their care. From day one of meeting Miss Umarji I felt that there is someone who can help. She always listens to the problems I have with my hands and discusses the options I have. I have had the pleasure of dealing with a few Doctors in the past who unfortunately just gave up. Miss Umarji has always been very professional and most importantly not given up on me or my condition. I hope there were more professionals like Miss Umarji

I broke my wrist very badly and required surgery to put it back together. Miss Urmani explained the procedure beforehand and clearly explained the options for anaesthesia. The surgery was problem free and I returned today after 10 days to have the plaster cast removed and the wound inspected. Miss Urmani tested how much function has returned and asked a few questions. I felt she spoke to me as an equal - even though she is a surgeon - and I appreciated that. I now have a Futura splint on my wrist and we discussed how much careful movement and exercise I should do. We also discussed wound care. Today’s visit has enabled me to see how much progress I have made with healing and given me confidence going forward.

Very professional, very friendly and reassured me straight away. Professional in the theatre everybody knew what they were doing and where they were expected to be they were very kind to me and reassured me when things were a little bit tricky. The surgeon herself was amazing. She made me feel very good and make me very aware of what was going on as she was doing the procedures.
