About Miss Deepika Akolekar
Miss Akolekar is a Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon. Her NHS practice is based at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust as well as private practice in Kent and London.
Miss Akolekar undertook her higher surgical training with the South-East Scotland rotation; she trained at the Edinburgh Breast Unit at Western General Hospital and subsequently continued her training in Breast Surgery at South East London and Kent Hospitals where she is currently based. On completion of her higher specialist surgical training, she was selected for the National Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Fellowship at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guilford and Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead as a recognition of excellence in her field.
Miss Akolekar specialises in management of benign breast diseases and breast cancer, working with an excellent multidisciplinary team of Radiologists, Pathologists, Oncologists and Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists running rapid access One Stop Clinics for diagnosis and management of breast lumps, breast pain, nipple discharge, family history concerns and breast cancer. Additionally she is fully trained in advanced breast conservation and breast reconstruction. Miss Akolekar is passionate about conserving the breast where possible using plastic surgical techniques to ensure that women undergoing breast surgery have good clinical and cosmetic outcomes.
Miss Akolekar has keen interest in clinical academics and education, she is prevalent in the field of research and underwent a dedicated period of full-time research at the University of Edinburgh which led to the award of a research MD. She has presented her work in national and international meetings and published her work in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She has organised and conducted many events in association with patient participation groups offering advice regarding breast self-examination, lifestyle modifications and family history.

I had to wait 30 minutes for my initial GP appt I did not expect lesser service than at my NHS GP surgery where I have never waited more than 15 mins. I am a self paying patient therefore I would expect a reduction in your GP appt fee. My consultant Miss Deepika Akolekar was so kind and professional as was my GP at Lyca when I actually got to see her.
Miss Akolekar was very friendly and welcoming. She explained things in full and explained why she was requesting certain tests. Miss Akolekar answered all the questions I had and understood all of my concerns.
