Mr Matthew Cichero is a Consultant Podiatric Foot Surgeon offering internationally recognised expertise with highly personalised patient care across London and Wiltshire. He has undertaken training at the MIFAS 18th International Basic and Advanced Foot & Ankle Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Course in July 2026, reflecting his ongoing commitment to the latest evidence-based surgical techniques.
Matthew treats the full spectrum of foot conditions — sports injuries, bunions (hallux valgus), hammertoes, Morton's neuroma, Achilles tendon disorders, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, nerve and tendon surgery, joint fusion and arthroplasty — using evidence-based and minimally invasive techniques where appropriate, alongside conservative treatment options fully explored before surgery is considered.
Patients value Matthew's clear, hands-on approach. Consultations are practical and outcome-focused, often including same-day injections, streamlined imaging pathways, and direct referral to trusted physiotherapists — reducing delays and unnecessary appointments. His reputation is reflected in exceptional patient feedback and the use of validated audit outcomes (PASCOM) to guide his surgical practice. Matthew has presented at national and international conferences and authored a number of peer-reviewed international articles. He is a member of the Royal College of Podiatry (United Kingdom) and a Fellow of Podiatric Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
South and West Foot Surgery is built on three things: being genuinely accessible and approachable; care that actually cares, meaning patients get an honest, unhurried assessment and a simple purpose — getting people back on their feet, and back to doing the things they love, whether that's walking to the shops, playing with grandchildren, or getting back on the pitch.
Known for his professionalism, approachability, humour and calm confidence, Matthew treats every patient with respect and clarity. He is a Platinum BUPA provider and a preferred consultant for all major insurers, with fees aligned to approved guidelines.
BACKGROUND & CREDENTIALS
Matthew graduated as a podiatrist in Australia in 1996, receiving the Peer Professional Clinical Prize. He completed his Masters degree in podiatry, specialising in podiatric surgery, in 2007, and his Australian podiatric surgical fellowship in 2011. In 2013, he became the first Australian podiatric surgeon to be awarded dual Fellowship, qualifying with the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery at the Royal College of Podiatry.
Prior to relocating to the UK, Matthew established clinical services in Singapore and for remote indigenous populations in the Northern Territory of Australia, and held lecturing positions at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. He was a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at the Great Western Hospital from 2010 to 2024, and now practises privately at the Harley Street Specialist Hospital in London, South and West Foot Surgery in Wroughton, and the Practice Plus Group in Bristol and Devizes.
Matthew has performed over 5,000 foot procedures and takes a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to the management of foot and ankle problems. He has a particular interest in the surgical management of the diabetic foot and the surgical correction of foot deformity and arthritis, with the majority of his surgery performed on a day-case basis under local or general anaesthetic.
His extensive background in biomechanics, orthotics and injection therapy gives him a unique insight into the conservative management of many lower limb injuries, using evidence-based treatments for common foot and ankle pathologies such as heel and arch pain. An active sportsman himself — tennis, triathlon, cycling and surfing — Matthew brings first-hand insight into sports injury management and the needs of an athlete.
