Dr Martin Samuels

Dr Martin Samuels is an accomplished Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician dedicated to providing comprehensive and reassuring care for infants, children, and young people. Specialising in general paediatrics, paediatric respiratory medicine, and paediatric sleep medicine, Dr Samuels works closely with young patients and their families to deliver tailored treatment plans for a wide range of complex respiratory and breathing conditions.

His clinical focus encompasses respiratory control disorders, including sleep-disordered breathing, obstructive sleep apnoea, hyperventilation, hypoventilation, and apnoea. Dr Samuels possesses extensive expertise in managing children requiring long-term mechanical ventilation, particularly those living with complex neuromuscular conditions, neurodisabilities, or rare disorders such as Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome. In addition, his clinical work includes diagnostic evaluations such as overnight sleep monitoring, pulse oximetry assessments, and hypoxic challenge testing to optimise respiratory health and improve quality of life.

Dr Samuels completed his medical degree at Guy's Hospital Medical School, qualifying as a doctor in 1981. He subsequently undertook specialist postgraduate research at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London, earning a Doctorate of Medicine for his thesis investigating the mechanisms behind hypoxaemic episodes in infants and children. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr Samuels has contributed extensively to clinical research and international medical guidelines focused on paediatric sleep, ventilation, and respiratory care.
