Dr Mark Ellul

Dr Mark Ellul is a highly qualified Consultant Neurologist and Academic Clinical Lecturer who provides expert care for patients experiencing complex neurological conditions. Known for his compassionate and patient-centred clinical approach, Dr Ellul focuses on delivering precise diagnostic assessments and tailored management strategies for a wide range of disorders affecting the brain and nervous system. He works closely with patients to ensure they understand their diagnosis, feel supported throughout their care, and receive evidence-based neurological management.

Dr Ellul possesses specialised clinical interest in autoimmune neurology and neurological infectious diseases. His primary expertise encompasses central nervous system infections and autoimmune conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord, with a focus on improving the diagnosis and management of encephalitis, including both viral encephalitis and autoimmune encephalitis. Alongside treating neuro-inflammatory disorders and post-infectious neurological complications, he manages general neurological presentations, helping patients navigate brain inflammation and complex neuro-immunological disorders.

Dr Ellul completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge, earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBChir) along with an intercalated Master of Arts (MA) degree in Neuroscience, qualifying in 2011. He later completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neurological Sciences at the University of Liverpool. A Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK), he was awarded the Specialty Certificate in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians. Dr Ellul is actively involved in professional organisations, serving as Vice Chair of Trustees for Encephalitis International and receiving the Turner-Warwick Lectureship from the Royal College of Physicians.
