Dr Lei Wang

Dr Lei Wang is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in the treatment of lower gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, including bowel, colon, rectal, and anal cancers, as well as gynaecological cancers such as endometrial, cervical, vaginal, and vulval cancers. She works at Royal Surrey County Hospital and East Surrey Hospital.

She provides chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments across all stages of cancer, with a particular interest in advanced radiotherapy techniques and organ-preserving approaches, especially for rectal cancer.

Dr Wang studied medicine at University of Cambridge (Jesus College) and Imperial College London, graduating with Distinction. She completed general medical and surgical training in West London before undertaking specialist Clinical Oncology training at leading cancer centres including The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Charing Cross Hospital, and Royal Surrey County Hospital. During her training, she achieved Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR).

She completed a postgraduate research degree (MD Res) at the Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden, focusing on advanced image-guided adaptive radiotherapy for pelvic cancers. Her research has explored areas including artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in radiotherapy, automated image segmentation, organ movement during treatment, and radiotherapy image quality.

Dr Wang contributes actively to academic oncology and medical education. She is an assistant editor and editorial board member of the journal Clinical Oncology, holds a postgraduate certificate in Medical Education from the University of Dundee, and has developed educational oncology resources through her “Instant Oncology” publications.

She is also a trustee of BRIGHT Cancer Charity, supporting research and innovation in bowel cancer care.
