About Mr Joseph Sinnott

Mr. Joseph Sinnott is a highly experienced Consultant Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and Thyroid Surgeon. Known for his warm demeanour, he provides expert care for both adults and children with a variety of ENT and thyroid conditions. His areas of expertise include tonsillitis, neck lumps, throat cancer diagnosis, nasal blockages, nasal polyps, thyroid nodules, sleep surgery, snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Mr. Sinnott specialises in nasal disorders and paediatric ENT issues, offering advanced treatment for sleep disordered breathing plus tonsil and adenoid problems. He also has an area of specialist interests in hoarse voice, lumps in throat and retrograde cricopharyngeal dusfunction (R-CPD). He is also manages ear infections, sudden hearing loss and blocked ears.

Since November 2022, Mr. Sinnott has served as an ENT Consultant at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. He also provides private consultations at The Ridgeway Hospital and Shalbourne Private Healthcare, both located in Swindon, covering Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire. In addition to in-person consultations, he offers video and telephone appointments.

Mr. Sinnott performs several procedures, including tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, adenotonsillectomies, removal of neck lumps, sinus surgery, nasal polypectomy, and septoplasty.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Warwick in 2012, Mr. Sinnott completed his two-year foundation training program and pursued then surgical training at esteemed centres in Sussex, South West England, and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. His training focused on subspecialties such as thyroid disease, head and neck cancer, and rhinology. He further honed his skills through travelling fellowships to observe the latest surgical techniques at London’s Royal National ENT Hospital and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, USA.

Mr. Sinnott is a recognised leader and educator in his field, holding a Level 6 qualification in Leadership and Management from the CMI and a Level 3 qualification in coaching. His experience as a Medical Officer in the Royal Naval Reserves has enriched his roles within the NHS and private practice. He co-chairs the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Team at the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and serves as the Education Lead for ENT at the Great Western Hospital, which was rated the UK’s best ENT department for trainee support and wellbeing in 2023. He is also involved in teaching local GPs and junior doctors and serves as a coach for the NHS South West Leadership Academy.

Dedicated to ongoing improvement and innovation, Mr. Sinnott was awarded an international gold medal for research into thyroid malignancy in 2016 and completed the British Rhinology Society Advanced Training Programme in 2022. He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers in leading journals and has presented at key forums such as the European Rhinology Society International Meeting and the British Neuroendoscopy Society Meeting.

Mr. Sinnott’s research interests include sinus surgery, head and neck oncology, paediatric neck lumps, and thyroid nodules. He has contributed extensively to professional publications such as Clinical Otolaryngology, the British Journal of Healthcare Management, the Journal of Laryngology and Otology, and Clinical Endocrinology. His presentations have been featured at significant conferences, including the European Rhinology Society International Meeting and the British Neuroendoscopy Society Meeting (BNES).

The treatment I have received from Mr Sinnott has been instrumental in treating my sleep apnoea. When I first arrived in his clinic, I was not able to breathe through my nose at night and through much of the day. Mr Sinnott felt that the reduction of my turbinates was key to improving my sleep apnoea. I felt that during the consultation appointments with Mr Sinnnott, he explained everything clearly and explored a variety of options with me. There was never any pressure to undergo surgery and I felt that as a result of the consultations, I was well equipped to make an informed decision. I underwent surgery in December along with an exploratory process. The surgery went smoothly, he'd explained in advance what I could expect and I felt at ease going into surgery. The care that I received at GWH was very good and following my discharge I was able to contact Mr Sinnott through his secretary, Chantal to which I always received a prompt and personable reply. I took Mr Sinnott's advice on what I needed to do post-op and he supplied me with the necessary information. My recovery was remarkably easy and fairly rapid as a result. I have been very pleased with the results from the surgery. My sleep is not perfect, but for the first time, for as long as I can remember, I can breathe through my nose at night. This will have a huge impact on my sleep apnoea and I recognised within a few weeks of the surgery that the constant symptoms I had experienced for years upon waking, had gone.
