He operates a specialist glaucoma service serving the North West and beyond, with particular interests in surgical techniques such as trabeculectomy, aqueous shunt devices, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and glaucoma laser procedures. He also performs micro-incision cataract surgery and the latest combined cataract and glaucoma stent surgery.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Yu plays a significant role in education and training. He is actively involved in teaching junior doctors, fellows, optometrists, specialist nurses, and medical students. He also participates in clinical sessions at the Emergency Eye Centre at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, overseeing the treatment of a broad range of acute and emergency eye conditions.
Mr. Yu is passionate about ophthalmic education and blindness prevention. He contributes to a global initiative aimed at educating junior ophthalmologists through GERSO (Global Education in Retinal Surgery Organization), where he chairs international webinars to mentor the next generation of eye specialists. Mr Yu performed successful glaucoma surgery on my eye 2 months ago. He is highly skilled and knowledgeable, taking the time to clearly explain the procedure to me beforehand, patiently answering all my questions fully. He is very calm and reassuring, (as is his whole team) so I felt relaxed and confident on the day. His continuing aftercare has been excellent, and my eye recovered more quickly than I expected, with much less pain than I had anticipated, all down to his high level of expertise. I will definitely choose him for future treatment and have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone considering this type of surgery. I am so grateful to him and his team.
