About Mr Jibin Francis
Mr Jibin Francis is a Consultant Neurosurgeon, with an interest in spinal neurosurgery. He is the lead for Spinal surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, and the Clinical Lead for the East of England Spinal Network. He treats a wide range of spinal conditions, including those arising from the intervertebral discs, nerve or spinal cord compression, spinal injuries, tumours, and infections. He also has a special interest in the neurosurgical management of conditions related to spinal fluid flow, including spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH), Chiari malformation, syringomyelia, and arachnoid webs and cysts.
Minimally invasive (keyhole) surgical techniques are employed in the majority of the operations he performs for disc prolapse and spinal stenosis, and, in 2023, Jibin introduced full endoscopic spinal surgery in Cambridge as an extension of these principles. These techniques deliver the same surgical results with the least possible trauma to surrounding tissues.
He completed fellowships at the John Radcliffe in Oxford, and a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal fellowship in Cambridge. Prior to this, Jibin ran a busy neurosurgical practice in South Africa from 2012, treating the vast majority of brain and spinal conditions requiring surgery, until deciding to focus on complex spinal conditions and advanced techniques in 2017.
Jibin is directly involved in neurosurgical training at both undergraduate (serving as speciality lead for Neurosurgical teaching) and postgraduate levels. He is a faculty member on various national neurosurgical courses.

I had an appointment with Mr Francis yesterday after being referred to him by my GP. He has previously been my surgeon. He listened as I outlined the sequence of changing symptoms and what I would like to achieve from treatment. He suggested a number of options.
Very pleasant visit .Explanations clear and manner warm and friendly. Timimg good and we were not rushed . Very quick follow- up letter to my local Consultant and GP as well as myself. Clear plan for future action with time and date fixed. Very reassuring.Every confidence in the future outcome , Thankyou Pam B.
Dr Francis was attentive and focused every time we met, including at my initial consultation, just before my operation, after my operation and all the subsequent visits he made to the ward to check my progress. His demeanour is the perfect balance of really listening to the patient whilst also exuding a calm air of confidence in his ability to achieve a positive outcome from the Neurosurgery. My operation was successful and life changing and means that I no longer have to spend half of every day laying flat on my back unable to function because of painful and debilitating headaches.
Mr Francis has a very calm style and inspires confidence in the advice that he provides. I was pleased to be able to benefit from his expertise.
Mr. Francis was very helpful, explained everything very clearly, told me all my options and the best way to go further with my problem. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Mr. Francis is a star, he has given me back so much of my mobility and is also a charming person to meet with, thank you Sir.
