About Mr Jeremy Williamson

Mr. Jeremy Williamson specialises in the investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of various conditions affecting the colon and rectum. His areas of expertise include managing colon and rectal cancer, abdominal pain, bowel symptoms, and anal issues such as bleeding and pain. He is also skilled in treating haemorrhoids (piles), skin tags, and addressing abdominal and groin lumps and hernias. Additionally, Mr. Williamson is proficient in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and gastroscopy (OGD).

Mr. Williamson graduated in Medicine from Cardiff University in 2007, where he completed his surgical training across Wales. During this period, he undertook research into the molecular biology of colorectal cancer at Swansea University Institute of Life Science, culminating in a Doctorate awarded in 2015. His research has led to several published papers, and he remains actively involved in surgical research, including national trials. He currently serves as the local principal investigator for a national trial focusing on emergency laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.

Following his surgical training, Mr. Williamson was awarded a prestigious Royal College of Surgeons fellowship in laparoscopic and advanced colorectal cancer surgery at St James's University Hospital, Leeds. In 2020, he was appointed to his current role at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, where he provides both elective and emergency surgical care at the Royal Gwent and Grange University Hospitals.

Mr. Williamson is committed to advancing his surgical skills. He was recently honoured with the ASGBI travelling fellowship to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia, where he studied robotic surgical techniques from leading global experts.

Mr. Williamson is dedicated to supporting his colleagues and was elected chair of the EYCN committee of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland. This role involves mentoring and supporting new consultants in their initial years of practice.

My recent visit see Mr Williamson was excellent he is so professional and explained everything from my recent surgery using the Robot which helped with my recovery. I would highly recommend more robot surgery and feel funding should be available so patients are not in hospital so long and the recovery is much quicker for patients.

Following an operation in early January, the healing process has been swift. My followup visit with Mr Williamson confirmed his good work. Hopefully will not need his services in the near future, but should they be required, I would have no hesitation in calling him.
