Dr James Hrastelj

Dr James Hrastelj is a dedicated Consultant Neurologist who provides comprehensive clinical care for patients presenting with a wide range of neurological disorders. With broad expertise across both general and acute neurology, he is committed to delivering thorough, patient-centred assessments to evaluate and manage complex health conditions affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. Dr Hrastelj approaches every consultation with clarity and compassion, working alongside patients to develop tailored management plans that support their ongoing well-being.

Dr Hrastelj earned his medical qualification, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BM BCh), alongside a Bachelor of Arts (BA), from the University of Oxford. Following his foundational training, he completed specialist higher training in neurology and gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). Advancing his academic and clinical repertoire, he was awarded a prestigious Clinical Research Training Fellowship funded by the Guarantors of Brain. Through this research, Dr Hrastelj investigated the genetic mechanisms and gene expression profiles associated with neuroinflammatory conditions. He maintains active involvement in professional organisations, including the Association of British Neurologists.

In his clinical practice, Dr Hrastelj has a strong focus on neuroinflammatory diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis, as well as neurodegenerative disorders such as motor neurone disease. He actively contributes to quality improvement initiatives and neurological research, aiming to refine diagnostic accuracy and expand access to effective clinical treatments.
