About Dr. Islam Heliel
Dr. Islam Heliel is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in General Adult Psychiatry, with over 18 years of experience in the NHS and 16 years as a substantive consultant at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Since 2023, he has practised privately with a focus on the assessment, diagnosis, and management of adult ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Dr. Heliel holds a medical degree and a Master’s in Neuropsychiatry from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2003. He received his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry with an endorsement in Substance Misuse in 2007.

- Substance misuse and dual diagnosis: including inpatient and community detox programmes, opiate substitution therapy, and culturally informed addiction care.

Dr Islam was very attentive and took the time to understand my concerns properly. I felt the appointment was handled with care, and his explanations helped me feel more informed about my next steps.
Dr Islam was very professional and understanding throughout my ADHD assessment. He made me feel comfortable speaking openly, listened carefully, and explained things in a clear and reassuring way. It really felt like he understood ADHD and the challenges that come with it. I had a very positive experience and would definitely recommend him.
Dr Islam Heliel performed my ASD/ADHD assessment where he was compassionate, understanding and professional. He has helped me with my medication titration, which was the purpose of my last visit, where he takes a cation first approach with dosages and ongoing monitoring of my health which has helped ensure my wellbeing throughout titration (ongoing). He explains everything in easy to understand language and takes the time to listen to what I have to say. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking help with their Neurodiverse assessment and ongoing medication needs.
