About Miss Iranthi Meththananda

Dr Iranthi Meththananda PhD MBBS MRCOG

Consultant Gynaecologist

Specialist in Fertility, Early Pregnancy, Pelvic Pain & Advanced Gynaecological Diagnostics

Dr Iranthi Meththananda is an experienced Consultant Gynaecologist with a dual background in scientific research and clinical medicine. She is known for her calm, thoughtful approach and her commitment to ensuring patients feel fully informed and supported throughout their care.

Her clinical practice spans fertility, early pregnancy, pelvic pain, gynaecological ultrasound, and minimally invasive surgery. She brings a strong academic foundation to her work, beginning with a PhD at Barts & The London School of Medicine, where she studied microbiome development on biomaterials—an early indication of her interest in precision diagnostics and personalised care.

She completed her medical degree at University College London (UCL) in 2010, followed by the Academic Foundation Programme at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, working across Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospitals. Dr Meththananda obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2016.

Her specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology took place across highly regarded centres in London and Kent. During this time she undertook advanced clinical training in subfertility, early pregnancy care, general gynaecology and rapid-access clinics for suspected cancer. She was awarded a competitive fellowship in Gynaecology Diagnostics at University College London Hospital (UCLH), where she developed advanced skills in pelvic ultrasound, including imaging for endometriosis and adenomyosis, and the assessment of complex gynaecological conditions.

In 2022, Dr Meththananda was appointed Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, where she is the Fertility Lead and provides specialist expertise in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology.

I was very well looked after by an amazing team and DR for a surgery I had recently. Everyone is so welcoming, everything is explained and you can ask as many questions as you like, also felt extremely safe under the care of the Dr who carried out my procedure. Dr Meththananda is very professional, very caring and made me feel completely safe before during and after my operation. Couldn't have asked for a smoother admission/hospital stay.
