Dr Ian Mann

Dr Ian Mann is a consultant cardiologist and heart rhythm specialist (electrophysiologist) based in Haywards Heath, Brighton and Sussex, with clinics also in London. His NHS practice is based at the Sussex Cardiac Centre in Brighton within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in atrial fibrillation (AF) and other heart rhythm problems, and performs catheter ablation to treat them. Dr Mann uses advanced technologies for ablation procedures including pulsed field ablation, radiofrequency ablation, and cryoablation.

Many of the patients Dr Mann sees come to him with palpitations, a racing or irregular heartbeat, dizzy spells or blackouts, wanting to understand what is going on and what can be done about it. He takes the time to explain the findings clearly and to talk through every option, from reassurance and lifestyle changes to medication and ablation, so that each patient can make the decision that is right for them.

Dr Mann has performed well over 1000 ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation alone. He also treats SVT (supraventricular tachycardia), atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, ventricular ectopics and ventricular tachycardia. Alongside his heart rhythm work, he provides a full general cardiology service. This includes chest pain, high blood pressure, breathlessness, heart failure and heart valve disease.

Dr Mann completed his PhD at Imperial College London, researching new ways to map atrial fibrillation in order to make ablation more effective. He now leads an AF research programme at the Sussex Cardiac Centre in Brighton. There he supervises doctors working towards their PhDs, leads clinical trials as chief investigator, and collaborates with research groups across the UK and internationally.

His research is published in major international journals. He sees private patients at Nuffield Health Haywards Heath Hospital and at OneWelbeck in London. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the British Cardiovascular Society and the Heart Rhythm Society.
