Dr Ian Coulter

Dr Ian Coulter is a dedicated Consultant Neurosurgeon who provides expert care for patients experiencing complex conditions of the brain, spine, and central nervous system. Known for his professional and reassuring manner, Dr Coulter works collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver individualised, patient-focused treatment. He is committed to providing clear communication and supportive care, ensuring that adult and paediatric patients, along with their families, feel informed and comfortable throughout every stage of their treatment.

Dr Coulter has developed specialist clinical interests in paediatric neurosurgery, pituitary disease, and the management of hydrocephalus. His clinical work encompasses surgical interventions for pituitary tumours, complex treatment pathways for hydrocephalus, and the management of paediatric head injuries and spina bifida. By incorporating advanced surgical methods and contributing to ongoing medical research, Dr Coulter consistently seeks to improve surgical outcomes and enhance patient quality of life.

Dr Coulter earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Newcastle University in 2008. He subsequently completed comprehensive specialist training in neurosurgery across major surgical centres in Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Toronto. Following the successful completion of his advanced fellowship and surgical training, Dr Coulter was appointed as a Consultant Neurosurgeon in 2020.
