Dr Gemma Buxton

Dr Gemma Buxton is a dedicated Paediatrician who specialises in providing comprehensive care for infants, children, and young people. With a strong clinical focus on paediatric emergency medicine, immunology, and infectious diseases, she is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Dr Buxton has a particular interest in outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), working to ensure that children requiring intravenous antibiotics can receive safe and effective treatment in the most comfortable environment possible.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Buxton is actively involved in medical education, research, and quality improvement initiatives. She has contributed to significant research exploring the challenges of seizure identification in children with intellectual disabilities, advocating for innovative, video-based care pathways to support families and carers. Her commitment to clinical excellence is also reflected in her work on improving student engagement during clinical placements and her contributions to global health research, including studies on severe acute malnutrition.

Dr Buxton completed her medical degree, earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). She subsequently obtained a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) and is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). Through these professional memberships and qualifications, she remains at the forefront of paediatric medicine, ensuring her young patients benefit from the latest evidence-based practices.
