Ms Franciske Evans is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. With over two decades of experience in psychiatry and on the specialist register since 2013, she brings deep expertise to her work across both NHS CAMHS and early intervention services, as well as private practice. Her private work has also included a focus on university students and young adults, treating a wide range of conditions including mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and autism spectrum disorder.
Ms Evans completed her medical training at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, graduating with distinction in medicine, paediatrics, and surgery. She began her career with an internship in orthopaedics and ophthalmology in Namibia. She later completed her pre-registration training at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, followed by basic paediatric training at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. It was during her time in neonatology and oncology that she developed a strong interest in psychiatry, leading her to complete specialist training on the South East Scotland Training Scheme and obtain her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
Ms Evans takes a formulation-based approach to psychiatry, working collaboratively with patients and drawing on their life stories, strengths, and challenges to inform diagnosis and treatment. She integrates a range of psychological approaches into her work, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), systemic family therapy, group work, and motivational interviewing. She also has specific training in infant mental health and experience conducting joint family sessions alongside other therapists.
She has a strong commitment to education, having contributed to the South East Scotland MRCPsych training programme, medical student teaching, and GP fellowship training in Lothian.
Ms Evans believes in a holistic, whole-person approach that gives equal weight to both physical and mental health. She is known for delivering patient-centred, timely, and evidence-based care, always striving to create a therapeutic environment that supports and empowers the children, adolescents, and young adults she works with.

I am writing this review because anyone considering reaching out should feel confident in doing so. Meeting you for my initial consultation was a genuine turning point. I sincerely believe my experience will reassure others who are considering taking this step. I came in utterly depleted—the high-functioning professional and family façade was collapsing under years of duty, leading to physical health issues and deep exhaustion. You did not just listen; you immediately provided profound validation, naming my struggle as the consequence of sustained systemic overload. This instantly offered crucial context for my entire life experience. You helped me see that the core of my problem is driven by a powerful sense of duty and empathy, which compelled me to take on every issue. You then provided a necessary intervention strategy by challenging the perception of safety in my long-term plans, asking the difficult question about the actual physical cost of continuing on my current path. Crucially, you framed the assessment as a "Golden Key"—a practical tool to protect my health and ring-fence my professional role. You introduced thoughts around an essential frameworks of logic and spirituality needed to begin the challenging process of "surrender "and beginning the journey to making changes for a better me professionally and a better and more meaningful family life I left the session feeling validated, deeply understood, and equipped with a clear, actionable plan to address both the internal compulsion and the external demands that were causing my breakdown. Thank you for your foc...

Fran is compassionate, holistic and very experienced. We have had no support with our child’s psychiatric health until now and Fran has been a life saver. She listens and looks at the whole picture of your child. She is warm and understanding. I would recommend.
Dr. Evans is caring, professional, and exceptionally skilled. She has a remarkable ability to communicate at a young person’s level, clearly explaining medical information while offering genuine reassurance to my daughter.
Dr Evans was warm and welcoming, and took great care when speaking to my daughter to be gentle and understanding. She quickly put us both at ease and explained carefully her understanding of our situation and what she could do to help.
Dr Evans is a kind and caring doctor. She is knowledgeable and her experience in treating young people is obvious. My son enjoys seeing her and he feels she listens to what he says and explains things well.
PLease see our comments earlier on Edinburgh Psychiatry - they refer specifically to Fran.
As always my session with Fran was extremely helpful. She always listens well and makes me feel understood. She always takes my opinions into consideration and plans for action are always discussed with me so I can have input. I always trust Fran’s judgment and always come out of sessions feeling positive and with a clear idea of what I need to continue to improve my mental health.
Very friendly and relaxed approach. We felt listened to and were offered very helpful advice.
