About Eloise Garbutt

About me

I’m Eloise Garbutt, a specialist gastroenterology dietitian at The Gut Health Clinic, supporting adults with complex digestive and gut-related health concerns. I bring over seven years of experience across the NHS and leading private hospitals in London, and am known for my structured, evidence-based and highly personalised approach to care.

How I can help you

I support people dealing with ongoing digestive symptoms, complex diagnoses, or conditions that haven’t improved with generic advice.

My areas of expertise include:

  • Functional gut symptoms such as bloating, diarrhoea and constipation
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Pancreatic disorders
  • Post-gastrointestinal surgery (including bowel resection, short bowel syndrome and stoma management)
  • Intestinal failure

I also have experience supporting individuals with:

  • Metabolic and diabetes-related gut complications
  • Post-bariatric surgery and GLP-1 treatment
  • Women’s health, including PCOS, endometriosis and menopause

My approach

I take a structured, evidence-based approach, recognising that gut health is complex and highly individual.

I do not recommend supplements, tests or dietary strategies unless they are supported by science and appropriate for you. Instead, I focus on identifying the key drivers of your symptoms and building a tailored plan that balances effective symptom management with long-term health.

A core part of my work is helping you feel confident in your food choices again, without unnecessary restriction.

My experience

Alongside my work at The Gut Health Clinic, I practise as a Senior Specialist Diabetes Dietitian within the NHS, supporting people with complex metabolic and gastrointestinal presentations, including pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, bowel neuropathy and delayed gastric emptying.

I have completed advanced training in the low FODMAP diet at King’s College London and have extensive experience across both inpatient and specialist outpatient settings.

The Gut Health Clinic

I work at The Gut Health Clinic, a specialist service led by gut health scientist Dr Megan Rossi (@theguthealthdoctor). The clinic brings together a team of expert gastro dietitians with 80 years of combined clinical experience and has supported more than 5,000 clients since 2018.

We work closely with GPs, gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure your care is fully integrated and aligned with your wider medical needs.

What to expect in your first session

Your first appointment is a structured consultation where we take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals in detail.

Following this, you’ll receive a tailored plan with clear, practical steps to move forward. I’ll also guide you on how many sessions are likely to be needed so you have clarity from the outset.

If you have private health insurance (including Aviva, Bupa, Cigna, Healix, Vitality or WPA), your appointments may be covered. Get in touch, and we can guide you through this.

Eloise is great. Online appointments on time good interaction and through feedback after each appointment. I have learnt a lot about gut health as well as the gut and brain connection.

I had an appointment with Eloise following an almost 12 month period of stomach issues. I had tried to take matters into my own hands but had accessed inaccurate information that has made my life so restrictive. I just wish I had booked in with the gut health clinic sooner. Eloise cleared up all of my questions and provided me with science backed facts to help me understand my situation and what I can do. Eloise is extremely knowledgeable and approachable. Not at one point did I feel judged for the situation I had got myself into. The initial appointment left me feeling hopeful that I can get my life back. Catherine who deals with the admin side of things is also extremely helpful and timely responses. The gut health clinic is very well run and worth every penny.

Eloise is always well prepared for our online consultations, with evidence based suggestions that have made a real difference to my main symptoms of bloating and abdominal pain in the space of two short weeks. I tend to ask many questions and Eloise always answers them clearly and thoroughly. She seems to have an endless knowledge base, which has been an unexpected bonus and we are now working towards lowering my cholesterol by tweaking my diet and adding in some supplements that have excellent research backing them up. In addition, Eloise is helping me with lowering my HBA1C levels, for which I am really grateful, as diabetes is in my family history. Unfortunately, since menopause, and in spite of being on HRT, my HBA1C levels have risen sharply and I am suddenly finding myself having to rethink how and when I eat, as well as what I eat and what kind of exercises I should be doing more regularly. To achieve lower HBA1C levels Eloise is also helping me adjust portion sizes to ensure I don't overload my gut microbes with foods that will cause too much bloating, and will also keep hunger at bay. I am slowly learning that small portions of a large variety of foods is the way forward. Eloise suggested I start using an App called Nerva, to learn more about the gut:brain connection and how they influence and impact each other. To my surprise I am really enjoying using this App and look forward to my daily sessions. I have already learnt more in three days from using this App than I have in years of online "Google Research". I have no hesitation in recommending Eloise and h...
