About
Dr Datta is an experienced general paediatrician with expertise in endocrinology and diabetes. He is currently working as consultant paediatrician at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital which is the largest tertiary hospital in Norfolk. He has more than 37 years of experience as a paediatrician.
Having completed his initial medical training in New Delhi, he went on to do MD in paediatrics in 1984. He worked as registrar in Delhi before going to Muscat Oman in 1986. He came to the UK in 1994 and was trained in Leicester Royal infirmary for his sub speciality interest in endocrinology and diabetes. He became consultant in Nuneaton/Coventry in 1997 where he developed the paediatric diabetes service and achieved the best HbA1c in the national diabetes audit. He moved to Norfolk and Norwich university hospital in 2004 where he leads the diabetes service.
Dr Datta's clinical expertise is in looking after infants, children and teenagers with all forms of endocrine disorders and diabetes. He has vast experience of all sorts of general paediatrics having practised it in 3 countries over more than 37 years.
Dr Datta has published over 18 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and has presented his work in many national and international meetings. He has keen interest in education and has been a Royal college of Paediatrics examiner for MRCPCH clinical, a senior examiner, and overseas examiner. He has also been a Training programme director for 5 years for East of England school of paediatrics.
Dr Datta has 2 children who are both doctors. He has 2 grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and bridge.

Thanks for having a Dr like Dr Vipan. He helped me a lot with my son. During the treatment he show a is very professional: very calm, listening everything, it’s giving you enough time to discuss what are the issues, and was right in all the ways with the treatment. A very pleasant gentleman to talk to … my son has never seen a consultant in his life so was a bit nervous at 16 but Dr Datta put him at ease and talked him through everything and he felt much better about the situation and how to handle his condition.

I have nothing but great praises for Dr.Datta. My toddler’s case has been a complex one and he has managed it with highest degree of professionalism and compassion. I would strongly recommend him to any who is looking for a pediatrician. I genuinely do not have enough words to describe how good he has been to us.

He was really lovely, he made my daughter feel at ease as she was nervous but he was very professional and lovely with it.

Dr Datta was exceptional. He investigated my son's symptoms thoroughly and explained the plan going forward. He was very patient answering all my questions and my son found him easy to talk to too.

I came to see Dr Datta with my 7 year old son with some worries I had. He was very attentive to my son, very friendly, professional and put my mind at ease, I left the consultation very reassured.

It gives me great pleasure to write a personal recommendation for Dr Vipan Datta. We have worked closely over the years and I have known him to be a kind hearted and equally astute clinician. He is a senior practising Paediatrician with special interest and expertise in Paediatric Endocrinological conditions. He looks after his paediatric patients very well and demonstrates respect, kindness and consideration to both the child and his/her parents and has a great quality of developing close rapport with all his patients/their parents, who I am sure respect him in return.
