Dr Vipan Datta

Dr Datta is an experienced general paediatrician with expertise in endocrinology and diabetes. He is currently working as consultant paediatrician at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital which is the largest tertiary hospital in Norfolk. He has more than 37 years of experience as a paediatrician.

Having completed his initial medical training in New Delhi, he went on to do MD in paediatrics in 1984. He worked as registrar in Delhi before going to Muscat Oman in 1986. He came to the UK in 1994 and was trained in Leicester Royal infirmary for his sub speciality interest in endocrinology and diabetes. He became consultant in Nuneaton/Coventry in 1997 where he developed the paediatric diabetes service and achieved the best HbA1c in the national diabetes audit. He moved to Norfolk and Norwich university hospital in 2004 where he leads the diabetes service.

Dr Datta's clinical expertise is in looking after infants, children and teenagers with all forms of endocrine disorders and diabetes. He has vast experience of all sorts of general paediatrics having practised it in 3 countries over more than 37 years.

Dr Datta has published over 18 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and has presented his work in many national and international meetings. He has keen interest in education and has been a Royal college of Paediatrics examiner for MRCPCH clinical, a senior examiner, and overseas examiner. He has also been a Training programme director for 5 years for East of England school of paediatrics.

Dr Datta has 2 children who are both doctors. He has 2 grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and bridge.
