“After a medical assessment in May 2021, I was told I needed to see a cardiologist. I reviewed the details of over 40 cardiologists and finally selected Dr Sukhjinder Nijjer – and I am so glad I did! After the initial consultation, I had a range of tests including ECG, exercise stress test and CT Angiogram. Dr Nijjer explained the results and options clearly, thoroughly and patiently. When I subsequently thought of more questions, he responded to my emails incredibly quickly. The option we chose was an invasive angiogram at The Wellington Hospital; before, during and after the procedure he explained everything to my full satisfaction and was totally reassuring throughout. As well as being an excellent cardiologist, Dr Nijjer is a very nice person who, despite his busy schedule, gave me all the time I needed. I am very happy to recommend him (and, accordingly, have posted this review on several websites). If I need to see a cardiologist again, I will go straight to Dr Nijjer.“

    About

Dr. Nijjer is an award winning Cardiologist who has an international reputation in coronary heart disease. Dr Nijjer is available in person and via video consultations - these are available daily, even in the evenings and weekends. He sees patients with chest pain or angina, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure, and all cardiac problems.

Dr Nijjer is an internationally recognised expert in invasive coronary physiology, an advanced technique which can help guide Cardiologists on when and where a coronary stent is needed. He has performed ground-breaking research into invasive technologies that have changed the field and lead to better treatment of patients around the world. He is regularly invited as a speaker and faculty at international conferences including the American College of Cardiology and TCT. Following his research, he provides medical education to other Doctors.

Dr. Nijjer studied medicine at the University of Bristol, where he graduated with Honours in 2004 with two undergraduate scholarships and many academic prizes. He was also awarded a First Class Honours degree with prizes in Pharmacology which was supported by the prestigious Wolfson Award from the Royal College of Physicians.

In his role as Consultant, Dr Nijjer has strived to deliver the best patient care while working across multiple hospital sites in west London. He works closely with General Practitioners, Kidney and Diabetes specialists to ensure the best outcomes for patients with complex needs.

Dr. Nijjer is committed to the better treatment of patients through the development and application of new medical technologies. His PhD, funded by the Medical Research Council and awarded by Imperial College, involved the development of new techniques (iFR and iFR-pullback) to measure blood flow in coronary arteries with blockages. Dr Nijjer pioneered the use of iFR-pullback to better use coronary stents in patients with many blockages and the iFR technology has now been used in thousands of patients around the world. A recent editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine referred to it as 'the new gold standard' and major international studies are ongoing and Dr Nijjer has worked on the design and running of these complex studies.

Dr. Nijjer possesses clinical expertise in all aspects of cardiology, including treating patients with chest pain, angina, breathlessness on exertion, palpitations or collapse. He has expertise in assessing and treating patients at increased risk of heart disease such as patients with high blood pressure, diabetes or raised cholesterol. He uses all of the latest stress testing techniques and if needed, invasive angiography, coronary stenting, and can implant pacemakers or cardiac monitoring devices when it is needed.

Dr. Nijjer's holistic approach to treatment is one of understanding as he recognises and responds to the fact that an individual's medical issues exist alongside other aspects of their lives, treating any medical conditions in a way that fits the lifestyle of his patients. He utilises the latest guideline-supported cardiac test to ensure his patients are fully investigated in addition to his thorough clinical assessment.

After a long search, I finally found Dr. Nijjer, who is truly an amazing cardiologist! I am so grateful for everything he has done for me- his knowledge and expertise are undeniable and he made me feel like I am truly cared for. I can only hope that more doctors like him emerge- he listened to all my questions and concerns, not once making me feel that my question is small or silly. He dedicated plenty of time to explain everything and during my invasive angiogram, he was very professional and highly skilled. Meeting him was so refreshing and gave me hope again!

I attended the One Heart Clinic in Harley Street in June 2021, with elevated blood pressure. Dr. Nijjer was welcoming, kind and thoroughly professional throughout. He examined me carefully and suggested an ECG, Echo cardiogram and CTScan of my heart. He was able to brief and debrief me on the results of these tests in a friendly, caring and sympathetic manner. I welcomed his empathy and plain speaking, and his ability to simplify the complexities of 'heart problems'. The after care was very good with thorough explanations of the follow-up questions I had asked. Dr. Nijjer is a very qualified and experienced heart cardiologist, and his treatment and care of me was truly exceptional.

Dr Nijjer (Sukh) and his team have been fantastic. No one would want to need to see a heart consultant, but in what is obviously a potentially very stressful and worrying situation he has been a model of calm professionalism, exuding a quiet confidence that 'solutions can be found'. His team fixed me up with the relevant tests, which were done very efficiently without adding further stress, and I was then brought into West Middlesex for an angiogram. In my case this then turned into the need for an urgent treatment with stents. The team there were brilliant, calm and organised, again making me feel very confident in their hands. Given what they unexpectedly found inside me they could have been forgiven a few 'oh no, this looks bad' type remarks between them, but there weren't, they remained totally professional and 'matter of fact'. I was kept informed of what they were doing for me as they did it in, in a way that I really appreciated. Before and after the operation he has been great at answering my uninformed and nervous questions, at all times of day and night. I'd really rather not do this again, but if I do need to, I would totally trust Sukh and his team to be able to fix me.

My mum was taken by ambulance to St Mary in July 2019. Blood test showed damaged to the heart. She was then transferred to Hammersmith Hospital Heart Attack unit. A team of cardiologist saw her. The consultant Dr Nijjer explained they decided she needed rotablation to clear the blockage a big calcified lump in the left main artery, and to put a stent in. He said it was a high the risk procedure -10%. They will be no debris as the drilling is so fast that the calcium will vaporise. But the risk is high due to age, (90) her diabetes, kidneys at stage 3, and her dementia. A fragile brain can make her delirious and she may never come out of it. Dr Nijjer performed the operation on her. 3 stents were out in her. It is a success. She is alive today and mobile with no more breathing difficulties. She does most activities independently including going up 2 flights of stairs . She owes her life to Dr Nijjer. As a family we are so grateful. Most of all whenever we speak to Dr Nijjer he so patient, so clear in explaining the procedure, her condition to us and sharing our concerns and anxiety. One cannot ask for a better and more compassionate and understanding surgeon. My mother is a very lucky person to have come across Dr Nijjer.
