About Dr Simon C Sporton
Dr Simon Sporton is a Consultant Cardiologist at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Cleveland Clinic London and One Welbeck Heart Health. He has specialised in Cardiology since 1994 and in the treatment of heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias) since 1999.
He graduated from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London, before completing postgraduate studies in Leeds and London, where he specialised in the management of heart rhythm problems. He then became a Consultant Cardiologist at University College London Hospitals before moving to St Bartholomew's Hospital. He currently co-leads the Cardiac Device Service at the Barts Heart Centre, the largest cardiac centre in the UK. He has subspecialist interests in catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation, management of cardiac device complications (including lead extraction), cardio-oncology, management of cardiac devices in patients undergoing radiotherapy and management of heart rhythm problems in people with heart muscle disorders (cardiomyopathy).
Dr Sporton specialises in the investigation and treatment of heart rhythm problems, including:
- catheter ablation using radiofrequency, cryo and pulsed field ablation
- permanent pacemaker implantation (including leadless pacemakers)
- conduction system pacing
- cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation
- cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) for heart failure
- lead extraction

My husband and I went to see Dr Sporton as my husband had a heart attack last year, and needed follow up advice. We were recommended to Dr Sporton by someone 'in the know'. We were very pleased to have met him, because he is incredibly knowledgeable, and is also kind and patient. We had lots of questions, and he took his time to answer them all which meant that we left feeling much happier with the situation because we understood the next steps and what was going on. His manner is calm, friendly and professional. He also came across as incredibly honest. My husband said that if he does need further intervention he would be very happy to go back and see Dr Sporton for it.
I honestly thought SImon was excellent. Everything was so clearly explained and he allowed me to make important clinical decisions within set parameters. He is absolutely the gold standard in clinician and I say that as a fellow doctor.
I felt that it was a true consultation. Dr Sporton explained everything clearly, answered all of my questions and we worked together to decide the next steps in my treatment. Thank you
