Dr Shakil Rahman is a highly experienced Consultant in General, Internal, and Respiratory Medicine, appointed in 2001. He received his specialist registrar and senior registrar training at several prestigious university hospitals across England, including Sheffield University Hospitals (Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Hospitals) and later Imperial College London’s University Hospitals, notably Hammersmith and The Royal Brompton Hospitals (National Heart and Lung Institute).
During his five years as a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Registrar at Imperial, Dr Rahman developed advanced expertise in respiratory medicine and clinical research. Following his consultant appointment at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals, he played a pivotal role in establishing a modern respiratory department. This included creating sub-specialty respiratory clinics, launching a fibre-optic bronchoscopy service, and overseeing the development of a dedicated respiratory ward for the care of acute and complex inpatients.
Dr Rahman has a strong academic and research background, with specific interests in beta receptor polymorphisms and their impact on asthma phenotypes. He was among the early adopters of PET imaging for diagnosing lung inflammation and for the staging and management of lung cancer.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Rahman serves as Sub Dean for the undergraduate medical student body at Epsom and St Helier, supporting students primarily from St George's and Imperial College Medical Schools. He also chairs the Medical Audit Department, a role he has held for over a decade.

Overall excellent. Felt like I was listened to and questions were focuused. Helped get blood tests and CT scan done same day
I have been a patient of Dr Rahman for over 20 years. He always takes time to see one and one never feels rushed. He explain's your condition and treatment. Although I have seen Dr Rahman due to a respiratory condition he takes a holistic approach and has saved my life when I had kidney failure and a rare auto immune illness. I have the utmost respect for Dr Rahman and have been so lucky to have him treat me. I would highly recommend Dr Rahman to anyone. I should also add his PA Emma is also exceptional and she has helped me dealing with hospitals and my medical insurers.
As ever a totally positive experience. I feel fully informed and confident about the information I was given. Also various avenues were explored concerning future possible treatment.
As usual. Pleasant and informative. We both chatted and I was pleased with the outcome.
Dr Rahmen always makes time for conversation and a thorough examination followed by suggestions for the best way to deal with any problems uncovered.
