Dr Sebastian Barton studied undergraduate and clinical medicine at Cambridge University and worked in junior doctor posts in Cambridge and Norwich before moving to Southampton for an SHO rotation to complete general medical training after which he completed Gastroenterology training in London.
After completing molecular biological research for an MD degree awarded by the University of Cambridge whilst a University Lecturer in Medicine, he was then appointed Senior Registrar at the Royal Free, Royal London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals. He worked for a year as a Consultant Liver Transplant Physician at the Royal Free Hospital before deciding to bring up his family outside London. Thus, in 1999 he was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital and is currently the Gastroenterology lead for East Kent Hospitals University and Foundation Trust.
Dr Barton is very experienced in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology including bowel disorders, indigestion and reflux, and liver disease. He is able to offer a wide range of endoscopic skills, particularly colonoscopy (with a 2019 caecal intubation rate of 100% and excellent comfort scores), gastroscopy and ERCP.
