Dr Richard Ashton is a Consultant Dermatologist with more than 30 years of clinical experience. He treats a wide range of skin-related disorders, has a particular interest in skin cancer and dermatological surgery as well as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and acne. He practices from the Nuffield Wessex Hospital in Chandlers Ford on a Monday morning/afternoon and a clinic at Bridge House in Titchfield (Fareham PO14 4AB) on Tuesday morning/evening and Friday mornings. Here removal of minor skin lesions can be carried out, usually at the first visit. He also helps to provide the NHS dermatology service for the Isle of Wight at the Lighthouse Clinic, 62 Crocker Street in Newport. Private patient can be seen there on a Wednesday evening but need to contact the clinic directly on 01983 522590.
Dr Ashton graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge and St Bartholomew's Hospital. He completed dermatology training at the Royal South Hants Hospital, St. John's Hospital in Leicester Square and the University of California Los Angeles, where did research into the effects of retinoids on skin for a Doctor of Medicine. He joined the Royal Navy as a medical student and worked as their Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Naval Hospital Haslar until it closed in 2009. Subsequently he has worked for Portsmouth NHS Trust and on the Isle of Wight.
Dr Ashton is a co-author of 'Differential Diagnosis in Dermatology', written specifically for General Practitioners and Nurses. First published in 1990; now the 5th Edition has recently been published in April 2021.
