I went to see Mr Castanho for a second opinion regarding the painful sciatica which was blighting my life. I felt I needed more information about the right course of action and the risks of spinal surgery. He carefully went through my test results with me and confirmed my previous diagnosis. He gave me the time I needed to explore my options and answered all my many questions. After which I felt able to make an informed choice. I went ahead with the surgery which has been very successful - the sciatica has gone and I have my life back for which I am very grateful!

I was diagnosed with a golf ball sized meningioma above my left eye. That was a major shock to me. NHS gave me steroids to bring down swelling and after 10 days sent me home. When we pushed for an operation date NHS finally said at least two or three months. That was not acceptable to me so I called Cleveland Clinic London to see if they had a neurosurgeon I could see. Dr Pedro Oliveira Castanho had a clinic that afternoon with one space left. So I jumped on the train and saw him at 6pm. That’s the best decision I have ever made. Dr. Castanho calmly read my notes and MRI and explained everything in detail and let me know my options. He put me at ease straight away and I went for the operation to remove my tumour planned for two weeks later. The day came and Dr Castanho met me and my husband on arrival. It was a long operation, at certain stages of the operation he called my husband to explain how everything was going. All has been a great success thanks to Dr. Castanho’s surgical skills. I had wonderful care at Cleveland Clinic hospital and wish to thank the whole team. I have made a very fast recovery, I couldn’t wish for anything better.
