About Dr Matthew Luckie

Matthew Luckie is a Consultant Cardiologist at Circle Cheshire Clinic, where he is proud to be the current Clinical Chair, and The Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle.

Secretary - Helen Luckie

His NHS practice is based at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Victoria Hospital, which provides complex tertiary cardiology and cardiac surgical services for the population of Lancashire and South Cumbria.

He graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School in 1998 and entered the North West Deanery Cardiology training programme in 2002. His specialist training included an echocardiography fellowship and postgraduate research at Manchester Royal Infirmary, focusing on echocardiography and the use of pacemakers in heart failure. This work led to the award of an MD degree.

Dr Luckie runs a one-stop cardiology clinic at both The Alexandra Hospital and Circle Cheshire Clinic, offering consultation, ECG and a fully accredited transthoracic echocardiogram within a single appointment. Results are discussed on the same day, and further investigations, follow-up plans or referrals can be arranged where required. A full report is issued to both the patient and their GP after the appointment.

In his practice, Dr Luckie manages a broad range of cardiac conditions, with subspecialty expertise in echocardiography and valvular and structural heart disease. He is accredited by the British Society of Echocardiography in transthoracic, transoesophageal and stress echocardiography. He led the Manchester Royal Infirmary echocardiography department through its successful departmental accreditation in 2019. He also has an interest in management of cardiac symptoms related to autonomic dysfunction including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and associated conditions.

Dr Luckie oversees a high-volume stress echocardiography service and runs a specialist heart valve surveillance clinic, monitoring patients with valvular disease to support timely assessment for surgical or catheter-based interventions. He collaborates closely with colleagues in cardiothoracic surgery and interventional cardiology to coordinate appropriate treatment pathways.
