About Dr Mark Cohen
Dr Mark Cohen is a highly experienced and compassionate Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetes Specialist, known for providing comprehensive, individually tailored care for patients with complex endocrine and metabolic conditions. Dr Cohen qualified in medicine from the University of Birmingham, where he also achieved first-class honours in Physiology (BSc) before completing his MB ChB in 1994. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1998 and subsequently undertook a Medical Research Council Clinical Research Fellowship at Hammersmith Hospital. His strong academic background culminated in the award of a PhD in Physiology in 2005, based on his research into the role of gut hormones in the regulation of appetite and food intake.
In 2006, Dr Cohen was appointed Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Barnet Hospital. He currently practises at Chase Lodge Hospital and Spire Bushey Hospital, specialising in obesity, diabetes, and disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid and pituitary glands. He works closely with surgeons, specialist nurses and dietitians to ensure coordinated, high-quality care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Dr Cohen has been absolutely incredible in helping me navigate life as someone newly diagnosed with diabetes later in life. After being admitted to A&E twice with DKA, I felt overwhelmed, frightened, and completely lost trying to understand what was happening to my body. From the beginning, Dr Cohen has patiently guided me through every step of managing my condition. He has explained the terminology, the medications being used and why, how much insulin to inject, timing of injections, and the many things that can affect my sugar levels. He also took the time to help me understand practical things that suddenly became part of daily life — such as keeping insulin refrigerated, using the phone app correctly, and understanding the Libre sensor and scanner. What has meant the most is his compassion and reassurance during the difficult moments. Whenever my numbers were dangerously high, or when I was panicking and feeling overwhelmed, he never made me feel foolish or alone. When I couldn’t stop being sick, he immediately arranged for me to go into A&E, and I genuinely felt cared for and safe. A diabetes diagnosis can be incredibly overwhelming, especially later in life, but Dr Cohen has been encouraging, patient, understanding, and consistently supportive throughout. I honestly do not know how I would have coped without his guidance and kindness. I am deeply grateful for the care he has given me.
