Dr Barakat is a Consultant Cardiologist with an honorary contract at the Barts Heart Centre and is Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London. He was trained in general cardiology and interventional cardiology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The London Chest Hospital and the Royal London Hospital. He was awarded an MD in coronary artery disease from the University of London in 2001.
His first clinical appointment as a Consultant Cardiologist was at Wexham Park Hospital in 2004. He was part of the team that helped to repatriate invasive and interventional cardiology from London to Wexham Park Hospital. After completing a postgraduate certificate in medical simulation, he moved to the Barts Heart Centre as Director of Cardiovascular Simulation. He actively trains Specialist Registrars in procedural skills in cardiology. He uses simulation-based training to train them in a range of procedures including pericardiocentesis, permanent pacemaker implantation, temporary wire implantation, coronary angiography, and coronary angioplasty.
Dr Barakat provides a comprehensive local cardiology diagnostic service for patients across East Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. The service is fully registered with the Care Quality Commission, reflecting high standards of governance and patient safety, and maintains consistently high patient satisfaction ratings on Google.
