About Dr Joseph Kwan
Dr Kwan has almost three decades' clinical experience in stroke medicine, neurorehabilitation, internal medicine & gerontology. After qualifying in medicine from Bristol (1994), he pursued academic research and specialist training in Southampton (MPhil) and Edinburgh (MD). He also trained in clinical neurology at UCL Queens Square, plant-based nutrition at Cornell, and dementia scholarship at UCSF. He has a specialist interest in cardiovascular disease prevention through lifestyle medicine, and is certified by the European Atheroscloerosis Society in Lipidology.
Dr Kwan works as a stroke consultant at Charing Cross Hospital. He pioneered lipid optimisation in the hyper acute stroke unit, setting up specialist post-stroke lipid clinic, and introduced a stroke lipid CNS. He has published over 155 scientific articles and book chapters, and won several major awards in stroke care. He is the Clinical Standards Chair for the British & Irish Association of Stroke Physicians (BIASP).
At the Cleveland Clinic London, Dr Kwan is a consultant physician in stroke medicine, neurorehabilitation and acute medicine. His approach is personalised, bespoke and holistic, empowering you through nutritional optimisation and exercise for disease prevention and well-being enhancement. He can provide guidance on recovery, prognosis, return to work and quality of life.
Outside of work, Dr Kwan is a father of four, enjoys healthy eating and fitness training. He lectures for Chelsea Football Club Foundation (education and exercise programme for TIA & stroke patients) and the Stroke Association (nutrition and exercise after stroke) as well as fund raising for charities.

Very measured and calm consultation. Reassured me in a worrying time, without giving false hope.
I immediately became aware that Dr Kwan was paying full attention to all matters pertaining to my condition. He delved into everything and asked relevant questions. He assessed my situation andHe clearly told me everything he was going to do and informed me what I should do. He gave me reminder notes (sticky pad notes) to ensure I did not forget. Supremely good meeting.
Dr Kwan was highly professional with an excellent bed side manner and clear in his explanations.

As ever Dr Kwan is extremely polite, courteous, professional and highly respectful. I cannot fully express my gratitude for his knowledge and professionalism in understanding my medical case as well as identifying the surgical solution. I am extremely grateful to have made a full recovery.
Dr. Khan demonstrated exceptional professionalism, thoroughly explaining my medical condition and outlining the path to improved health. He is, without a doubt, the most effective physician I have encountered in fostering a sense of comfort and understanding.
Dr Kwan was very professional. The consultation was unrushed. I felt listened to and (when i left) clearly understood my options moving forward.
Initially the receptionist had some confusion about the appointment but she went to find who may be available. JK was and had read my notes prior to our meeting which was very productive. He was also privy to a couple of reports which were not due to be released to me for another 3/4 weeks (not very helpful) on which we were able to take action.
