Dr Gauri Godbole

Consultant Microbiologist and Parasitologist Dr Gauri Godbole is based at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is the Deputy Director for Gastrointestinal Infetcions, Food Safety and One Health for UK Health Security Agency( UKHSA), England.

Dr Godbole holds an MBBS from Pune (1997) and an MD in Internal Medicine from the University of Mumbai. She undertook further training in internal medicine in London, followed by a Fellowship in Medical Microbiology and Virology at the University College London NHS Foundation Trust. She has more than 25 years of experience in the field of infection and has worked in numerous prominent hospitals across London.

Her clinical interests include tropical infections, travellers' diarrhoea, and infections in returning travellers. She specialises in gastrointestinal infections and parasites. Currently, she is the clinical lead for the national helicobacter and botulism service for England. She also has interests in the management of complex infections and antibiotic stewardship.

Dr Godbole is involved in researching newer technologies such as whole-genome sequencing for the detection of antimicrobial resistance. She has contributed to a number of national guidelines and is on national advisory committees. She has more than 50 publications in the field of infection.
