Dr Frank Murphy is a Consultant Gastroenterologist appointed as Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and is clinical lead for Endoscopy services in Winchester and also has a practice at Andover War Memorial Hospital.
Dr Murphy undertook undergraduate training at Southampton University between 1987-1993. He obtained his medical degree and an intercalated BSc in biomedical sciences. He then trained in General Internal Medicine in the Wessex region between 1993-1997 and obtained his MRCP in 1996. He did his specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Wessex region from 1997-2004.
During this time he was awarded a prestigious clinical training fellowship by the Medical Research Council to study his PhD in the field of liver fibrosis between 2000-2003. He was awarded his PhD in 2004.
Dr Murphy has published work in the fields of liver fibrosis and inflammatory bowel disease. He has been a local investigator in a number of national clinical trials including Photostent 2, BOSS and ELUCIDATE. He has also recruited patients to the CONSTRUCT trial and Thalidomide trials.
